Children's oral hygiene

Specific care for babies and children

Every age requires specific care to respond to the different physiological conditions to which the mouth is subjected and to thereby ensure its proper development.

VITIS® offers you the care that every age needs and has been proven to effectively prevent caries throughout childhood. The range has been developed to help children acquire daily hygiene habits and to make brushing a pleasant experience. It is the perfect range to protect children’s gums and teeth.

During the first 12 years of life, the oral cavity undergoes great changes. Each age needs specific care to respond to these changes and ensure the correct development of the oral cavity.

you for a healthy mouth

  • Relieves discomfort of the gums and cares for the baby’s first teeth.

  • Between the ages of 0 and 2 the eruption of the milk teeth takes place.

  • It is very important to start and maintain proper oral hygiene even before the first teeth are visible for proper development.

ERUPTION PRIMARY TEETH

Tooth eruption occurs between the ages of approximately 6 months and 2 years and can be a painful process in which the baby or child usually presents with:

  • Increased saliva production

  • Redness and inflammation of the gums

  • Increased restlessness and irritability

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Tendency to insert fingers, fists or hard objects in the mouth

For children to develop healthy primary (baby) teeth, it is essential to initiate
and maintain proper oral hygiene from a very early age, even before the first
teeth are visible.

To do this, specific products must be used to help care for gums and teeth
during teething, always taking into account the child’s characteristics at this age:

  • Very small mouth

  • Psychomotricity not developed - oral care by an adult

  • Products with the lowest amount of allergens possible

  • Sugar-free products

  • Between 2 and 6 years of age, the oral cavity is formed by milk teeth.

  • It is very important to keep them healthy for a correct development of the final teeth.

2 - 6 years PRIMARY DENTITION

Between the ages of 2 and 6 years, a child’s mouth is made
up of primary (baby) teeth.

  • Early loss of primary, or baby, teeth can cause complications.

  • 10% of the children in the world develop caries in their primary teeth

At this age, early childhood caries is the most common oral infectious disease. Plus, due to the very characteristics of baby teeth, once caries begins, it progresses very quickly and can potentially affect the nerve (pulp) tissue more quickly than in adults.

Proper oral hygiene at this stage is essential to prevent the accumulation of bacterial plaque (biofilm), the main culprit of caries formation.

  • It is important for children at this age to acquire the habit of brushing and for adults to supervise.

  • Visit the dentist and/or paediatric dentist at least once a year to prevent or correct any oral pathology or disorder.

  • In children under two years of age, with a high risk of caries, a toothpaste gel with 1,000ppm of fluoride ion can be used under dental supervision, applying a quantity of gel of a size equivalent to a grain of rice.

  • Limit consumption of sugary foods, particularly those that are soft and sticky. Avoid snacking between meals: it is recommended to eat 5 meals a day and to avoid snacking in-between.

  • It is very important to perform proper oral hygiene at this stage to avoid the accumulation of bacterial plaque (buccal biofilm) and protect the gums during tooth development.

6 - 12 years - MIXED DENTITION

Between the ages of 6 and 12 years, a child’s primary dentition
is replaced by permanent teeth.

  • Early loss of primary, or baby, teeth can cause complications.

  • 35% of children worldwide develop caries in their permanent teeth.1 bacterial plaque and, in turn, tooth decay.
